Otavalo and Handicraft Villages

Otavalo (2 days / 1 nts)  From $N/A

Indigenous market vendor

One of the best things to do around the Otavalo area besides visiting the typical Indian market is to go around to the little villages where Otavaleños are manufacturing the products that will be sold in the market.

For this we normally visit the towns of Calderon, where they make bread dough figures; Agato, where the natives still use back straps for weaving; Peguche, a town near Agato where the Spanish loom is the main working instrument; Iluman, the town of the felted hats; and Cotacachi, the town of leather goods. This journey takes you into Indian houses and their cultures. We not only put emphasis on the handicrafts, but also on the indigenous people´s culture.

The second day we start early in the morning in order to be able to visit the typical animal market and then we move on to the handicraft market in the city of Otavalo. The rest of the day is similar to the one day Otavalo excursion.
